Who we are

Neuroscience of Meditation is run by Aditi, a doctoral fellow in the science of yoga, based in Delhi, India. For any question about your data, use the contact page.

1. The newsletter

What we collect: your email address, and only if you subscribe.

Why: to send you evidence-checked articles and practices. That's all it is used for.

Where it's kept: with Kit (kit.com), the service that sends our emails.

Your choices: every email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops all emails straight away.

2. The Swara open record

Only if you tick both boxes and choose Join the open record on the Swar Yoga page. The tool works fully without joining.

What we collect for each observation:

  • which side you report is flowing, and what the Svarodaya rules predicted;
  • the time of the observation, and minutes since sunrise;
  • your location rounded to about 11 km (never your exact position), and only if you share a location;
  • the lunar day and cycle length used for the comparison;
  • if you choose: mood, energy and calm on a 1 to 5 scale;
  • if you did one: the name of the practice done before observing again.

We also store: a random account ID linked to your browser, the date you gave consent, and your confirmation that you're 18 or older. We do not ask for your name or email to join.

Why: to publish aggregate statistics testing what the Svarodaya texts claim about the breath against real observations, and to show you your own history.

What's public: only totals and percentages. Nothing is shown until at least five people have contributed, and any hour with fewer than five logs is hidden, so no individual's pattern can be picked out. Your individual logs are never published.

Where it's kept: in a database hosted by Supabase (supabase.com). Only you can read your own logs through the site.

How long: until you delete it. If the project ever closes, the individual logs will be deleted.

3. Your rights

When you join the open record, the Swar Yoga page shows you an anonymous record code (eight letters and numbers). Because we never ask who you are, this code is the only way to find your data, so please keep a note of it.

  • Get a copy of your data: email adiyogistudios@gmail.com with your record code.
  • Delete your data: email us with your record code. We'll delete your observations, your consent and your account ID. Deleting also withdraws your consent.
  • Stop contributing: choose Stop contributing on the Swar Yoga page. New observations from that browser won't be saved. Anything already saved stays unless you ask us to delete it.
  • Lost your code? If you've cleared your browser or changed device, we can't link a record back to you. Write to us anyway and we'll help where we can.

We'll reply to data requests as soon as we can, and within 30 days.

4. What stays in your browser

A few things are saved only on your own device, in this site's browser storage, so the Swar Yoga tool remembers them between visits. They are never sent to us. Clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes all of them.

  • Your checks: the side you reported, the time, and what the Svarodaya rules expected, for the "Your last two weeks" panel. Use Clear in that panel to delete them.
  • The place you chose, rounded to about 1 km, so sunrise can be worked out next time without asking again.
  • Your settings for the guided practices: whether the voice is on, which voice, how fast, and how the practice is shown.
  • If you choose “Continue without saving” in the open-record box: a note not to ask again, kept only until you close the tab.
  • If you close the floating newsletter button: a note to keep it closed.
  • What Swami Neurananda remembers, the guide on the Swar Yoga page: your first name if you give it, the side and time of your checks (so he can tell you your pattern over the past week), and how far you got in the lessons.
  • If you join the open record: the anonymous sign-in that links this browser to your record. It is kept by Supabase's code in your browser, and it is why a new browser or cleared data can't find your record without your code.

The morning reminder is a calendar file made on the page itself; nothing about it reaches us. If you choose Google Calendar instead, the link opens Google with the reminder's text and time filled in.

5. Services the site connects to

Like any website, these services see your IP address and browser type when your browser fetches something from them. Apart from the anonymous step counts below, they receive nothing from the Swar Yoga tool unless you join the open record or give your email.

  • GitHub Pages (github.com) hosts the site and may keep standard server logs for security.
  • Kit (kit.com) provides the newsletter forms. Its script loads when you start using a signup form, or after the rest of the page has loaded.
  • jsDelivr (jsdelivr.com) serves the code library the Swar Yoga page uses to talk to the open record.
  • Supabase (supabase.com) holds the open record. The Swar Yoga page reads the public totals from it on each visit. It also receives anonymous step counts from the guide, such as “someone reached a result” or “someone opened a practice”: just the step’s name and the time, with no name, email, ID or device details, so we can see which parts help and which lose people. Browsers set to “Do Not Track” are not counted.
  • Europe PMC (europepmc.org), a public library of medical research run by EMBL-EBI. Only when you ask Swami Neurananda for the latest research does your browser search it, sending the topic or the words of your question. Nothing else about you is sent.

If you give your email to Swami Neurananda, it goes to Kit, the same as the newsletter forms (with your first name, if you gave one), and Kit sends you a confirmation email first.

Fonts are served from this site itself, not from Google Fonts. There are no advertising trackers, and no analytics beyond the anonymous step counts above.

What we never do

Sell your data, share it with advertisers, track you across other websites, or knowingly collect anything from anyone under 18.

This is not medical advice

The Swar Yoga tool records what you observe and compares it with traditional texts. It does not diagnose, treat or assess any health condition. If you feel unwell, speak to a doctor.

Changes

If this notice changes in a way that affects what we collect, the version and date above will change, and we'll ask for your consent again before collecting anything new.
